Recent Cases: 

Rob has logged well over 100 days in administrative proceedings before the Maine State Board of Property Tax Review representing municipal and private interests in hearings concerning the valuation of complex industrial and commercial properties. Among the cases he has litigated before the Maine State Board of Property Tax Review are Bath Iron Works v. Bath, Champion International v. Bucksport, Central Maine Power Company v. Yarmouth, Great Cove Boat Club v. Eliot, Northeast Empire #2 LP v. Ashland, Maine Medical Center v. Falmouth, Great Northern Paper Company v. East Millinocket, Sprague Energy Company v. Bucksport, Cushing Holdings, LLC, et al. v. Cushing. Rob has also successfully represented his clients in the following cases before the Maine Law Court: Ring v. Town of Freeport, Yusem v. Town of Raymond, Northeast Empire #2 LP v. Ashland and Sawyer v. Cape Elizabeth.

PROFILE

 

Rob Crawford is a shareholder and member of the Municipal and Governmental Services Department at Bernstein Shur. He practices in the area of municipal law and routinely practices in the subject area of property taxation and in matters requiring experience in appraisal and complex valuation issues, such as eminent domain proceedings. He also routinely advises both municipalities and individuals on issues regarding state and local laws governing permitting, zoning and land use; in tax collection and tax lien procedures; and in property tax matters in foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings. He also advises energy interests on economic development programs, valuation and local taxation matters.

His case experience includes valuation disputes concerning paper mills, oil terminal facilities, hotel and resort properties, marina property, hydropower facilities, stationary wood and oil-fired thermal power plants, co-generation facilities, electrical and gas transmission and distribution systems, wind generation facilities, subsidized housing projects, municipal street takings, and disputes concerning tax exempt property. 

 

Rob has also assisted public and private clients with drafting and securing legislation to address special circumstances and operational needs. His work with the firm’s private energy clients includes tax planning and counsel with economic development planning, tax policy and tax increment financing.
